Sofia - User Guide

Full item

The full item is displayed by clicking on a title or cover in the results list. This includes the main information from the results list  (title, author, year of publication, etc.).

Export and save options are on the top right:

  • Cite: obtain a bibliographic reference for the item. On the left-hand side, you can export bibliographic data to EndNote, RefWorks or in RIS format (namely for Zotero and Mendeley). On the right-hand side, you can display a reference in various formats (APA, MLA, etc.) to copy/paste elsewhere. 
    Please note: always make sure you have the correct reference. It may in some cases include French words (i.e.: de).
  • Link: request a URL for the item.
  • Email: email a link to the item.
  • Save: add to My Items on the top of the page.
    *Please note: If you do not sign in to your Sofia account, items will only be saved during the work session. To save them permanently, you must sign in.

The rest of the item is made up of several sections that can be unfolded and closed as needed. Depending on the case, some items may not have all the sections described below

This section gives more detailed information on the format and content of the document: physical dimensions, summary, topics covered, various notes, etc. There are also different identifiers and standard numbers. Moreover, the search keywords are underlined in yellow.

Offers the best access option (s). Depending on the type of documents, their availability and loan policies, you can access an electronic document directly from this window or trigger a reservation or an interlibrary loan request.

Access Online

Appears for digital documents. One or more hyperlinks are then offered. If special access conditions apply, these will be described under "Notes and license conditions".

Other Availability & Holdings

 

Allows you to see if this title is available in other libraries. You can initiate an interlibrary loan request from either of these sections.

Quebec Academic Libraries (Bibliothèques universitaires du Québec) : displays items from other libraries affiliated with the Quebec University Library Partnership. You consult or borrow the items on site, but interlibrary loans are usually preferred. Click on the Request via Interlibrary Loans button.
Note: For licencing purposes, you may not directly access digital items from other institutions. A note to this effect shall be displayed.

International Libraries: displays copies from other libraries around the world that have deposited their collections in WorldCat. Click on Request via Interlibrary Loan (if available) to request an interlibrary loan, which is transferred through Colombo. You may also click on a specific library to consult its catalogue directly.

Displays the copies the library has on each of its campuses, their exact location and availability. It is also possible to filter by status in order to display the results according to their availability.

Warning: it is sometimes practical to change the number of results per page to ensure that you have an exhaustive portrait.

This section presents the document in the middle of a virtual shelf where you can browse the other documents in the library with a similar call number, and which could therefore relate to the same subject. Just navigate left or right to see neighboring documents. Note that this section only presents documents in printed format.

This section allows you to see the different versions or editions of the document such as a previous edition or another format (electronic book, large print book, microform, etc.). Summary details are presented for each edition; all you have to do is click on a title to switch to the detailed instructions for this edition.
